On 3 February 1966, Lazo Vukmirica paid a deposit on behalf of the Pokret for the land at Bonnyrigg. On the 6 February, at a meeting of the Pokret at St Sava Church Hall at Mona Vale in the presence of Vojvoda Momčilo Đujić, the purchase was endorsed and the task of raising the necessary funds was begun in earnest.
Within a few months, the land was cleared and some temporary buildings repaired. Several picnics and events were held on the land during this time.

The Movement of Serbian Chetniks Ravna Gora, a World War II veterans association, was founded in 1954 by former combatants from the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Having no desire to remain in communist Yugoslavia these veterans together with many families, elected to cross into northern Italy at the conclusion of World War II and eventually settled in Western Europe, North America, and Australia.
